Baby ejected from vehicle in Westmoreland County crash was not in a car seat

State police said a baby, believed to be about 8 months old, who was ejected from a vehicle during a crash in Westmoreland County on Wednesday afternoon, was not in a car seat.The crash happened at about 2:50 p.m. on Edna Road in Hempfield Township.Police said the vehicle the baby was in was making a left turn out of an automotive shop on the 400 block of Edna Road when it pulled out in front of another vehicle and was struck.The baby girl was thrown about 35 feet from the vehicle.State police said witnesses rendered aid and the baby was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for treatment.The child’s mother and father, who were both also in the vehicle, were taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville with moderate injuries.State police said the driver of the second vehicle was taken to Westmoreland Hospital with a suspected minor injury.State police are investigating the crash.
