MAYETTA, Kan. (WIBW) – Four people were transported to Topeka hospitals after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Jackson County.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at 158th Road and US-75 highway.
They said an eastbound Ford pickup collided with a northbound Infiniti car at the intersection.
The driver of the pickup was ejected. One adult and two children inside were all taken to the hospital. The sheriff’s office said two of the three had injuries that are believed to be critical.
The driver of the car also had critical injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The pickup truck sustained extensive front-end damage and came to rest facing southwest in the northbound lanes of US-75 highway.
The Infiniti also had major front-end damage and came to rest facing north in the east ditch of US-75, just north of 158th Road.
Northbound traffic on US-75 was being diverted through Mayetta as crews cleared the scene.
US-75 is a four-lane, divided highway at the location of the crash. The highway has a 70 mph speed limit at that location.
There are a number of road crossings along the highway in both Jackson and northern Shawnee counties.
Tuesday morning’s crash occurred at the 158th Road crossing, which leads to the city of Mayetta.
The Kansas Highway Patrol along with Jackson County authorities responded to the scene.
