Woman steals Boston Transportation Department vehicle, drives off with worker’s hand in door, police say

A Boston Transportation Department employee was injured early Friday during an attempted carjacking in the city.Police were called just after midnight to Charles Street and Stuart Street for a report of a BTD marked vehicle that had just been stolen.A woman who works for the BTD said she tried to get out of the motor vehicle to issue residential permit citations, when Emily Milano, 29, of Brighton, got into the vehicle, which had the keys still in the ignition, and drove off, police said.The victim said she tried to open the door, but Milano continued to drive off with the victim’s hand stuck in the door. The BTD worker said she fell, hurting her hand and bumping her head. She was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.Officers stopped the stolen vehicle on Southampton Street. Police said Milano was uncooperative with officers, and she began kicking them. Milano was arrested and charged with carjacking, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and larceny over $250. She is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
